Saturday with the Schlappis

Two weeks ago Caleb and I watched my cousins Sarah, Sammi, and Spencer in Lehi while their parents went down to Arizona for a wedding. We had so much fun together! I have a renewed appreciation for motherhood, however. Over the weekend, we did all sorts of fun things like...

Rockclimbing at Liberty Land!

Yes, Caleb wanted to play, too.

Sarah and Sammi raced to the top. Two of the most competitive sisters I have ever seen (except for my sister Justyn and I.)

The "Kids" also had a blast driving race cars, until it started to rain.

We watched Sammi's soccer game. Even after a kicked ball to the face, she still outplayed all her teammates. I hope this soccer thing sticks, and we have another player in the family.

And here are the cutest (and youngest) soccer parents in Lehi...

The Honeymoon...

You know how some people have really bad luck? I'm one of those people. If having scaffolding all over the temple and a sick husband on my wedding day wasn't enough, just wait until you hear about our honeymoon:

Caleb suffered the effects of food poisoning for a few more days, but was feeling better by about Wednesday. All week he had been looking forward to an overnight deep sea fishing trip that we had booked (If you ask Caleb what his favorite sport is, he'll say fishing.) Unfortunately on Wednesday we received a call from H&M Landing reporting that our trip for that night had been cancelled. Strike one. Caleb managed to schedule a last minute slot on a boat leaving Thursday night, so we packed up our things, made some last minute schedule changes, and raced to the dock to make our 10pm departure. We barely made it, and because we were the last two people to sign up, we got the last two bunks... on opposite ends of the boat. So Caleb is sleeping by a huge hypothermia-inducing fan while I am thirty bunks away surrounded by old drunken sailors. Strike Two.

Have you ever been seasick? On your honeymoon? Well let me tell you about it. Twenty minutes after departure I found myself vomiting into my poor husband's hands because there was neither bag nor bathroom nor side of boat close enough. That of course made him sick. Caleb was able to make it to a toilet where he spent the next hour or so vomiting. We both spent that night suffering from severe "gastric discomfort." Strikes three and four.

Despite the mostly repulsive crowd constant state of nausea and/or vomiting, we both forced ourselves to fish. It actually helped our stomachs to focus on something. Caleb ended up catching more fish than anyone. He caught 6 Baracuda and 2 Yellowtail Tuna. I caught two Baracuda, which I was thrilled about. (I have never caught a fish before. Plus, I had just as much fun putting the live bait on the hooks!)

Now we can look back on that experience and laugh. We actually had a pretty good time, and it made for a truly unforgettable honeymoon. Other highlights of the week included:

Beautiful Burgers...

A few days on Oceanside Beach...

And a visit to Balboa Park

Love and Marriage

So we're married now! The month of May was quite an eventful one. Here are the highlights:
April 23: Lindsey Graduates from BYU with her nursing degree! (Still unemployed. I'm currently studying to take my boards and become a real nurse.)
April 24: Lindsey flies home to Temecula to spend the next few weeks in wedding planning mode.
April 25: Caleb leaves for Peru for two weeks on an engineering study abroad. He implemented a water heater project for some of the local villages there.
April 25-May 10: Lindsey suffers withdrawal symptoms from Caleb while he is saving the world in another hemisphere. Good thing her mom keeps her busy.
May 11: Lindsey picks Caleb up from the airport and they drive directly to Redlands so she can go through the temple.
May 12: Down to San Diego to take pictures, then over to San Marcos to get a marriage license, then over to Temecula where Caleb gets food poisoning at Alberto's Mexican Restaurant.
May 13: Caleb is still very sick.
May 14: Still sick. Lindsey is panicking right about now.
May 15: Caleb (who is feeling better, praise the heavens) picks Lindsey up and they drive to the San Diego Temple to get hitched. Greatest day ever. It was wonderful to see so many loved ones. A family luncheon followed the marriage ceremony, and then there was a reception that night. At the reception, Caleb begins to feel sick again, so the bride and groom ditch their own reception early so Caleb won't throw up in front of all the guests...
The honeymoon stories only get better. More to come soon!
